Transitions At Medical Missionaries

June saw the arrival of our two new Global Health Fellows at the clinic in Thomassique. Fidel Desir and Emily Dansereau took up their responsibilities for the year in mid-June.

We are grateful to Katie O'Neill and Kavita Vinekar for their year of service, which ended on June 30. We wish them great success as they prepare to enter medical school next month.

Emily DansereauEmily Dansereau graduated from Stanford University, where she majored in Human Biology.  She hails from Seattle, Washington.  While at Stanford, she was a teaching assistant and residence hall assistant.  She participated in and led a wide variety of extracurricular activities.  Besides English, she speaks Spanish and Italian.

Emily arrived at St. Joseph Clinic with prior international experience.  She worked side-by-side with doctors and nurses at a clinic in Cochabamba, Bolivia and at a hospital in Antigua, Guatemala.

Fidel DesirFidel Desir graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where he majored in Biology and French.  He was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico.  While at Washington University, he served as a teaching assistant and participated in and led many extracurricular activities.  Besides English, he speaks French, Spanish, and some Chinese.

Fidel has international experience in health practices, having been a hospital volunteer in Dominican Republic, where he received funding to initiate an HIV project.
