Clinic Maintenance
| | This trip brought some much needed maintenance for St. Joseph Clinic. Chief Engineer, Ron Burrell,
assisted by Medical Missionaries volunteer Yvon Aristide, tackled a wide range of problems, including repairs to water, electric
and power systems. | The clinic's water pump was the first system the engineering team tackled. That required the installation
of a new water pump. | | | The clinic's electric system has experienced a number
of problems over the past few months. Diagnosing the problems and working with the limited tools that are available
in Thomassique plus those they brought with them proved to be a real challenge. Many of the problems resided in outdoor
wiring which had to be dug up to pinpoint the problem. |
Working on the electrical system provided opportunities for our expert engineer, Ron Burrell,
to educate some of the local youth on the basics of electricity and wiring, including these control boxes for the clinic's
solar panels. | | | Because many of the repairs involved
underground wiring, there were also opportunities to teach the youth about some sophisticated technologies that are used in
outdoor wiring today. In this photo, Yvon Aristide demonstrates how to splice an underground wire. |
Many parts of the clinic also
received a fresh coat of paint, including the exterior trim on the main building. | | Go To: Return To Trip Report Home Page |
